From Pink to Purple: A Feminine Room Upgrade

When we moved into our house, most of the bedrooms were designed for kids. We kept some things, but the bubblegum pink room HAD to go. Here is what it looked like as the little girl’s room (it was cute for a little girl,) but we needed a  more adult guest room.

I always knew that I wanted a purple room in my house from the time I was 8 years old. Obviously my taste in purple shades has changed since 8, but I always thought a purple room would be fantastic. We went searching for a color that could work as an adult guest room and found a perfect purple!

We had the room painted months and months ago and then it just sat. I decided we needed to get our butts moving and start decorating! I took an old IKEA dresser that we had already and decided to change out the knobs to make it a little more feminine for the room.

Once the dresser was done, we decided to add photos to the wall as well. Sticking with this floral theme, I took some photos with my camera of our flowers outside.

I wanted high quality photos so I asked people about the best site and got a lot of recommendations for mpix. I ordered them and they were mailed to me very quickly and the photos looked awesome! I got some amazing white frames from IKEA, for cheap, then hung everything on our purple room walls.

Once the flower photos were hung I kept going with the theme. I found amazing curtains on Joss & Main’s website, but they were a little more money than I wanted to spend. After reading some other home blogging websites I discovered that a lot of people save money on curtains by getting shower curtains, cutting them in half, and using stitch witchery to fix the edges. I haven’t had a chance to cut the shower curtain in half yet but am in love with it.

I also saw a wooden “Be Our Guest” sign on Etsy and decided, if painted silver, it would be the perfect addition to the room. I ordered it, spray painted it and hung it up.

Here’s two photos. One is before the “before our guest” sign, the curtain, and the knobs. The second photo has all our new decor. I am in love with our new feminine guest room. Just walking into it makes me so happy!

I cannot wait to keep changing our house to what we want. Our next big home project will most likely be our bedroom, but that will be a while.

My next adventure is another stitchfix arriving June 9th, hopefully on time this time. I asked for date night dresses and dresses for  a winter wedding we have. Here’s hoping they really deliver!

That is a really lovely shade of purple! It’s feminine without being “girly”. We’re using our own photos almost exclusively as the art in our home, and it’s been so fun! We even have a few photos we’ve had printed on canvas to make them look a little more like “real” art. People are always impressed to know that it’s our stuff 🙂

It’s so fun to use your own stuff, it definitely means more. The purple shade ended up being great, but there was definitely some nervous feelings when we picked it out. If you have used any printers that you love for your photos, let me know! Would love more printing options.
