I grew up a tomboy. I had two older brothers and a mom who never wore makeup. I learned quickly how to do my hair in college when a good friend, thank you Hastings Hall girls, handed me a straightener and offered to “help.” I seriously had no clue what I was doing.
I figured out hair, after a few rough years, but makeup seems to be an ever evolving learning curve for me. I think at this point in my life I’ve gotten pretty good at doing my own makeup, simple makeup, but I am finding out I really enjoy the adventure of trying new things.
One great tool for me has been youtube tutorials. I clearly am a “monkey see, monkey do” type of learner. How I find new things to try is to first look on pinterest, where you see the “finished product” and then go to the youtube tutorial it’s linked to.
Trust me, if I can learn to do makeup…anyone can.
I am in no way saying I’m an expert makeup artist, I am not. I am, however, saying that I have gotten pretty good at doing makeup for my face, and trying new things (often failing,) and then practicing until I get better.
For me, finding a good makeup for my sensitive skin was imperative. Bare minerals is all I use as far as my face makeup is concerned..but eye makeup I mix it up. I have bare minerals, urban decay Naked palette 2, and a few others that I like to play with.
This post is mostly about my adventures with my new love: The Urban Decay Naked Palette 2. All the colors work together and there is a tutorial for anything you could want to try on youtube.
My adventure was to try this video:
I hate listening to people talk a whole bunch, so I put this on mute and only did the eye portion of this video. I thought it was great with defining what colors to use and rather easy to follow.
Here is my finished makeup after watching and trying:
Not perfect, but with a little practice I think I can nail this eye look down.
I did discover that I really need some new makeup brushes and a bunch of tutorials have been mentioning Sigma Brushes. I’m going to look into a blending brush with them and test it out, I’ll let you know how it goes!
I have about 4 more Youtube tutorials to test, as I complete them I’ll share!
Love it looks great! Eye looks take practice ! If you have a chance take a look at my video … It’s based on my current favorites
Thanks! I will definitely check out your video. Always love good recommendations!
