I had a big event coming up, a huge company party for my husband with a Monte Carlo theme and a “dress to impress” tagline on the invitation.
Clearly it was a job for Rent the Runway.
This was the first time I’ve ever had anything go wrong…and it was the happiest accident ever.
Originally I ordered this dress:
I went against my better judgment and picked a dress without any reviews because it was new, and it was SO SO pretty. Normally I spend so much time going through reviews, looking at the way the dress fits on different body types and making sure that it will work on mine. THIS TIME..I didn’t.
But fate stepped in.
I got an email the day before my dress was supposed to arrive that my backup size was damaged for the dress above, and I could choose any other dress as a backup. There weren’t many available but I got the Halston Heritage Lavelle Gown, and the Marchesa Note dress pictured above.
When I tried on the Marchesa Note…it.was.not.good. It wasn’t the worst dress I’ve ever seen, but if you have booty or thighs, FORGET IT. It highlights any belly area, and it was just bad.
I panicked and kicked myself for going against my better judgment and picking a dress without seeing it on other women…but then, in that bag, was my backup dress that was sent as a replacement, the gorgeous Halston Heritage.
I tried it on for my husband and he was super excited. Loved it. Actually gave me the idea to style my hair to the side to show off the sheer back and shoulder.
Without further adieu..The Halston Heritage Indigo Lavelle Gown:
This dress is INSANE. Hugs all the right spots and flares out. It has an amazing train in the back so it’s a hi-lo hemline, adds some drama to it.
I was in Baltimore for the event and ANY excuse to not do my own hair, I’ll jump on. I scheduled an appt at Haute Blow Dry Bar, they did a killer job. Asked for my hair all to one side and they gave me this:
Overall, what a happy mixup, and AMAZING customer service by Rent the Runway. They were so apologetic about the damaged backup dress, were amazing at sending me a new one, and thank GOD they did because it ended up being the dress I wore.
Happiest mistake ever 🙂
Oh makeup: done by me.
- Eyes are an Anastasia Beverly Hills palette I put together of gorgeous purple-y hues and gold, used Labyrinth, Peach Sorbet, Dusty Rose and Aubergine shadows.
- Lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.
- My usual Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation mixture of 4.25 and 3.75 (my skin makes no sense.)
- Lip is my favorite Claire Lip Buxom…that you can literally no longer find 😦
Here’s to my next Rent The Runway adventure, I will definitely go back to my usual method of making sure there are reviews and body types to be seen in the dress before renting!
